Overview |

In line
with the aggressive plans to facilitate data management
in Oil companies, Thales Egypt identified a pilot
project for Gupco (BP and EGPC) on “How to
maintain the pipelines and offshore facilities?”
Thales chose MCS
to develop a GIS (Geographic Information System) for Gupco. |

We
were faced with the following challenges |

Most
of the data is co-ordinate sensitive.
Some
data is in 3D.
Users
are located in different locations (field, main office
and overseas) .
Data
exists in many formats (ASCII, AutoCAD dwg, Excel, Word,
pictures, Video files, pdf)
.

Thales was
responsible to manage the project while MCS
had responsibility for developing the required software
and for installing and configuring all the required server
architectures. |

The
solution consisted of three Modules |

Pipeline
Commander |
|
|
|
Enables
authorized users only to feed the system with all inspection
data for pipelines and platforms.
Stores
surveying reports, charts, video files, etc.
Generates
Geo-referenced surveying charts for any required area
at any required scale.
Enables
querying pipeline data (ex. survey, operation, etc) using
coordinates in AutoCAD or the attributes in the database. |

Platform
Commander |
|
|
|
Enables
authorized expert users only to feed the system with all
platforms, wells and related Rig Move
data.
Stores
all related data to a specific well.
Stores
all historical rig move position related to the platform.
Simulates
a rig move for a specific rig to a required platform.
Generates
Geo-referenced charts for any required area at any required
scale.
Enables
querying platform or well data (ex. operation, etc) using
coordinates in AutoCAD or the attributes in the database.

inspection data for platforms steel structure,
risers, clamps, etc. Stores operational and inspection
reports, 3D models, video files, etc.
Generates
3D models, plans, or elevations for any required level,
from any approach angle.

querying structure entities data (ex. steel structure
members, risers,anodes, clamps, etc) using 3D coordinates
in AutoCAD or the attributes in the database (ex. Cathodic
potential readings, wall thickness measurements, etc.). |
